The 1930 Essex
Longer Wheelbase and Added Power MODELS NOW IN AUCKLAND An entirely new Essex makes its appearance in Auckland. It is on a longer wheelbase, of different line and finish and has more power. There are eight body styles—coach, standard sedan, coupe, touring sedan, brougham, phaeton, roadster and sun sedan. These are arailable in a -wide choice of colours. The six-cylinder high-compression motor is entirely new, with balance secured by further application of the super-six principle and by the use of aluminium-alloy pistons and light connecting rods. Operating smoothness is attained through a Lancaster balancer, which is mounted on the front end of the crankshaft. An improved method of lubrication is used with a powerful pump carrying screen-filtered oil from the reservoir to the crank chamber by way of two separate main feed lines, one leading to the front, the other to the rear of the motor'. The power development of the new motor is due to the design of the high compression, lion-detonation cylinder head and to an improved easy flow manifold fuel system. The carburetter is of a two-jet type. It has an accelerating pump with three-position seasonal control and is beat-jacketed. The new bodies make the fullest use of the advantages of steel construction. Special flanges on all body channel pieces secure the limits of strength and security. Welding makes the upper body structures practically one single jointless piece.
