MOTOR-VAN ON FIRE

A meat-laden motor-van belonging to Mr. W. C. Smith, butcher, Roval Oak. proceeding along Trafalgar Street Onehunga, shortly after five o'clock yesterday afternoon, suddenly burst into flames, through the engine backfiring. An alarm quickly brought the Onehunga Fire Brigade, when the prompt application of the chemical equipment soon suppressed the outbreak. The damage was confined to the wiring and dashboard under the bonnet. The van is insured for £ 200 in Lloyd’s.
