TWO BIG TALKIES “Excellent entertainment” is the phrase which best classifies the latest Fox production, “Nix On Dames,” movietone comedy which is now at the Plaza Theatre. It is a tuneful, sparkling story of two women and two women-haters, filmed against the colourful background of an actors’ boardinghouse. The gentlemen with the antifeminine complex are acrobats. In practising a new “stunt” one of them has his shoulder broken, and they decide to rest up in .New York. Two highly personable young ladies appeal on the scene and life becomes quite complicated. All ends as happily as could be expected, with the two damsels getting in their most effective* licks at the finish. It’s a simple but splendidly story, and the noteworthy cast and .Messrs. Gilbert and Baer’s catchy song numbers make it thoroughly enjoyable Mae Clarke. Robex*t Ames and William Harrigan have the principal roles Donald Gallaher rates commendation for his direction. The supporting programme is headed by the fine outdoor talkie, “The Done Star Ranger.” which is based on Zanp Grey’s famous tale. George O'Brien has the leading role.
