LONDON PRODUCE MARKETS
SLOW DEMAND FOR FRUIT The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated April 12, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand. London: Tallow. —No auction will be held until April 30. The market is quiet, but steady for both spot and. shipment. Quotations are unchanged. Fruit.—The market is slow, with large arrivals of Australian apples, and prices are declining. Quotations: Cox’s Orange, 18s to 20s; Gravenstein, 9s to 12s; Dunn’s Favourite, Alfriston. Lord Wolseley, 11s to 14s; Worcester Pearmain, Shorland Queen, 10s to 13s. Hemp.—Manila: The market is easier under freer offers and less support. J grade afloat sold at £29. April-June shipment now quoted at £29 10s, sellers. Sisal: The market is quiet. Large consumers are not operating. Values for March-May shipment are: Fair average quality, No. 1, £33 10s; No. 2, £32 10s; good marks, 5s to 10s more. Tow.—The demand is moderate at unchanged prices. No. 1 is quoted at £23 10s and No. 2 at £2O 10s to £2l. New Zealand; The market continues dull and small first-hand business is reported in fair grade afloat and March-May shipment. Quotations: Fair, £27; common, £25 ss.
