INSURANCE STEADY A BRIGHTER tone is registered on ’Change and numerous sales are being written up, especially in the bank section. Insurance are in demand; New Zealand continue to change hands freely.

Business on the Auckland Market Transactions on the Auckland market over the past 24 hours included: yesterday afternoon.—English. Scottish and Australian Bank, £6 15s; National Bank of New Zealand, £6 Gs; Ne'V Zealand Insurance, £2 4s f»d; Kenown (2nd pref.), 2s 9d; New Zealand Inscribed Stock, 1927-41, 5i per cent, £96. At the morning early call.—New Zealand Insurance, £2 4s 6d; Pukemiro Collieries, £3 Bs. At the midday call.—Bank of New Zealand, £2 19s; New Zealand Insurance. £2 4s 6d; British Tobacco, £2 Os 3d; Milne and Choyce deb. stock, £1 6s Dd. Market at Midday In the bunk section, Australasia have persistent buyers. Commercial of Australia are steady. English and Scottish are slightly easier. National of New Zealand have firmed to sales £ 6 6s, leaving a firm market. Wales are active. Union of Australia remain quiet. Coals are less active at present. Hikurangi are unchanged. Pukemiro sold again this morning at 68s, leaving little change in the market. Renown (pref.) are steady; the second pref. sold last evening at 2s 9d, leaving the market unchanged. Taupiri, both issues, are asked for. The miscellaneous section is quiet. Australian Class is again weaker. British Tobacco have improved slightly.

Sales at midday at 40s 3d. Dominion Pictures nave persistent buyers at 20s. Farmers’ Trading are steady. Union Oil are again in demand at 33s 6d. sellers not reducing. Wilsons Cement are inclined to firm. Mine Managers’ Reports Mine managers re.port as follows; Alburnia.—The drive north on the hangingwall branch of the Orlando lode has been driven 6ft, a total of 312 ft. The branch is still split into stringers, and the country rock between this branch and the cross leaders has been very hard, but is showing signs of improving. The cross leader that we are carrying along in the same face has opened out to Gin wide and is a nice compact leader, carrying bright mineral blend and silica.
