LIFE’S EARNINGS STOLEN THREE YEARS' GAOL PENALTY Press Association DUNEDIN. Today. John James Arthur, a married man with 11 children, was sentenced to three years’ hard labour in the Supreme Court today on charges of false pretences involving £2.000. which he obtained from an old fellow-employee, allegedly to invest in mortgages. The Judge said he found it difficult to imagine a more callous fraud than this practised on an old man for a sum doubtless representing his life’s savings.
