Coyle Wins Double

SATURDAY’S BROADSIDING Butler Takes Norton Cup ON Saturday e\ ening the thousands ot patrons at Western Springs Stadium were again treated to daring exhibitions of broadsiding in a night of fast racing and thrilling speed contests. Riders were at the top of their form. The B grade rider, Tom Butler, although failing to capture his third miniature of the Norton Cup, piled up sufficient points to give him the main trophy. This will be presented to him at the final meeting at Western Springs on Wednesdav.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between the riders classed as improvers and those in the A grade. On Saturday night again, the victor in the Norton Cup was classed among the ranks of the B grade competitors. This rider. Bert Coyle, secured the coveted “double,” taking the final of the Farewell Handicap also. Alf Mattson was unfortunate in his match race with Bobbie Blake. the champion from Sydney. Special interest was attached to this event as the two riders had each secured a victory jn the match races of the Saturday before. Mattson had fallen in an earlier event and damaged his machine, although he himself escaped with a j shaking He rode a strange mount and was unable to reproduce his usual form, finally falling. He cleared the corners well, but had not sufficient sped in the straights. The match between Bon Bray and Max Graham, of Australia, was quite ps exciting as their earlier contest, resulting in a win for the local speedster, \ v ho is showing a big improvement in form. Bray was selected to ride in the novelty race against the super-charged Baby Austin driven by Phil Se&brook, Mattson being unable to appear. This event showed the superiority of the motor •cycle over the motor-car on a loose surface of this type and shape. The Baby Austin, although a special machine built expressly for racing, failed to sho w any speed on the corners and was beaten by nearly half a lap. The second series for the HudsonKfc'SCX Cup was won by Tom Butler, who will add the second miniature to the first, won last week.
