N.Z. MEAT EXPORTS
AN ALL-ROUND INCREASE LONDON’S BIG QUOTA An all-round increase in exports of beef, mutton and lamb is shown in the returns for the current season to the end of March supplied by the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board. A feature of the returns is the decrease in the amount of beef shipped to New York, only 1,411 quarters being consigned to that port this year, compared with 24,147 quarters for the curr« spending period of Just year: for even this comparatively small shipment there is doubt os to whether it was unloaded at New York, for it was shipped on an optional bill of lading. London, as usual, has taken the biggest portion of Xpw Zealand’s exports of meat,- increased quantities of all varieties going to that port, compared with last year. Imports of New Zealand beef to London total 44.470 quarters to the end of March, compared with 9,954 quarters for the same period list y<- ••..*» carcases of mutton compared with 045,051 carcases last year; 2.269,025 carcases of lamb compared with 2,067,919 carcases for the same period last year, and 52,357 carcases of pork compared with 51,335 carcases last year, all show London’s capacity to absorb increased quantities of frozen meat, among other articles of primary produce from New Zealand Pork is the only frozen meat product in which New Zealand export figures to date this season show a decrease. At the end of March 64,401 carcase.-, had been exported, compared with 84,769 carcases to the same date last
