LAWNS

Did you forget to give your lawn a good top-dressing of fertiliser late last summer? It is not too late, even now. But do not make the mistake so commonly made. Do not sprinkle the lawn with barnyard manure. It is low in fertilising elements, is unsightly, and usually abounds in weed seeds which will cause considerable trouble later. And, above all, do not use lime on the lawn. Lime encourages most of the common lawn weeds and is to be shunned for that reason alone. A top-dressing now of a good complete commercial fertiliser or of sheep manure and bone-meal will be much better. Lawns must have plenty of 'plant food available during the growing season if they are to make the growth you desire. Most poor lawns are due to poor feeding.
