“UNDER THE GREENWOOD TREE” ! “Under the Greenwood Tree.” the splendid talkie starring the talented I Auckland boy John Batten, continues to delight audiences at the Roxy Theatre. In the story the citizens of Mollstock are siding with the local instrumental choir against the installation of an organ. To gain public sympathy, the band march the main street playing their old folk music. One of their number, Penny, the bootmaker, remembers that he has a shoe to deliver to the new school mistress. Fancy Dav, who has not yet been introduced. All are eager to see her. especially Dick, the leader of the choir, who offers to take the shoe to her. At the same time, lie takes the opportunity of inviting her to the choir’s dance. Fancy's neighbour, Shinar, a wealthy farmer, falls in love with her, and seeing how popular Dick is. vows revenge. Hearing that she can play the organ, he proposes to pay the cost of same. 5 Fancy and Dick fall in love with one i another, but the time arrives when . the organ is being taken to the church, I and Dick discovers that his sweet- , heart is going to play it, and the two f quarrel. They are a long time separi ated, and in the meantime, Shinar purr sues bis sent. I-Ie suggests a visit to an old fortune-teller, whom he has f previously bribed. i
