OFF FOR THE CAPE
DUCHESS SEEKS RECORD RETURN FLIGHT START FROM ENGLAND British Official IVirclcss RUGBY, Thursday. The Duchess of Bedford and Captain C. D. Barnard left Croydon airdrome yesterday in the Fokker-Jnpiter monoplane The Spider for Lympne. From there they started at 5.30 a.m. today
on an attempt to fly to Capetown and back, a distance of 18,500 miles, in 18 days.
Mr. R. .Little accompanied the party as auxiliary pilot. In August, 1929, the duchess and Captain Barnard made a record flight to India and back in seven and n-half days. On that flight the duchess, who is 61 years of age, took her turn at the controls of the machine while Captain Barnard slept. She will relieve the pilots in the same way on this flight.
