ROTORUA NOTES
Tho town clerk, Air. W. A. AlcLean, lias received information that RearAdmiral Byrd and four members of the expedition will arrive in Rotorua tomorrow. Arrangements are being made for a Alaori entertainment in ’Tamatekapua meeting-house at Ohlnemutu, where the Mayor, Air. T. Jackson, will give a civic reception. Mr. 11. Tai Mitchell is in charge of the arrangements. It is reported that the long-promised do lux© carriages will be used on the Rotorua-Auckland line during Easter. Arotorists intending to travel on the Atiamuri Road arc warned to take chains, as the heavy rain lias made a quagmire of certain portions under reconstruction and repair. Other roads in tho district are in excellent condition. * * * A special meeting of the Rotorua County Council was held on Wednesday. It was decided to raise the council’s quota toward the employment of ti'affic inspector from £IOO to £l2O. Contractors are to be asked, when making contracts, to. bank all corners and trimmings. Air. A. Bellingham stated that the balance sheet was ready for audit and was complimented on the satisfactory position shown, the net credit balance being £4,234. .£ 2,401 of which was loan money. Total receipts for the year were £14,958 and expenditure £16,243, including loan money. Sir George Hunter, AI.P., is staying at the Grand Hotel. He is taking treatment at the baths.
