MORRINSVILLE NOTES
A party of about 20 members of the Morrinsville branch of the Farmers’ Union left for Rotorua this morning to inspect the pumice country between Rotorua and Taupo. In the Morrinsville Magistrate’s Court, before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., R. J. C. Ramsay (Mr. E. McGregor) was awarded £4 damages and costs £6 2s 6d in a claim for £2O j damages for trespass against E. G. ! Halley. Plaintiff, who is the owner of a property on KiwitaJii Road, claimed that defendant had grazed stock on his land after being ordered to remove them and that the stock had damaged a new hotise on the property. A meeting of the Tauliei Drainage Board was held on Tuesday. The balance-sheet for the year ending March 31 was placed before the board, and members expressed satisfaction at the position shown. The rates outstanding at April.!, 1929, amounted to £453, and the rates struck during the year were £975 15s, making a total ot £1,428 15s. Rates collected during the year were £1,151, leaving a balance outstanding of £277 15s. It was reported that the work of clearing blackberries from the banks of drains was being done by landowners as instructed, but in some cases the work was not entirely satisfactory, A letter was received from the L nder-Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs regarding the Lands Drainage and River Protection Bill asking the board to forward any comment it desired to make as early as possible. The board was unanimously of the opinion that the rating should be on an acreage basis, and that unless this basis* of rating was introduced the proposed amalgamaseveral drainage boards in the \\ aikato district would not be effected.
