ROYAL OAK P.O.
FIXED FOR THREE YEARS Correspondence from the Chief Postmaster, Auckland, received by the Onehunga-Manukau Chamber of Commerce, at its meeting last evening, pointed out that in transferring the Royal Oak Post Office to more commodious premises, he had been unable to secure a more central site owing to the high rentals asked. A three years’ lease of the new premises had been signed, he said, but if the business showed a satisfactory increase at the expiration of that period no doubt the authorities would consider the question of erecting a building of their own on the land held in reserve for that purpose at the Royal Oak corner. The president df the chamber, Mr. D. H. Kirk-Jones said that he had no doubt that if the residents of the district wanted a proper building the surest way to get it was by putting all their postal business through the present office. It was finally decided to express the chamber’s appreciation to the postal authorities for having provided more commodious premises at the Royal Oak, and regretting their failure to secure a more central site. It was also agreed to thank the Chief Postmaster for having placed an additional pillar-box in Queen Street, Onehunga. The Winter Show Committee advised that the date of the next show would be July 19 and that a grant of £SO would be made, if the chamber decided to take up space for a court. This was declined, owing to the show committee having refused to increase the cash grant to £75. The date of ftiture meetings of the chamber was changed from the second to the third Wednesday in each month.
