BANK GOVERNOR
ELEVEN YEARS IN OFFICE British Official Wireless RUGBY, Tuesday Mi*. Montagu Norman was today reelected governor of the Bank of England. This will make the 11th year in which Mr. Norman will have filled the office. He was first elected in 1920. Prior to 1914 the governorship of the bank was held in rotation and never for more than ono year unless in exceptional circumstances. The late Ix»rd Cunliffe was the first to break this unwrittep law. To the general public Mr. Norman is almost a man of mystery, as he scarcely appears outside the financial sphere. To financial circles he is thr supreme arbiter, who ordains the movements of the bank rate, which has been of supreme importance during his term of office.
