WAIKATO HOSPITAL

NEW WARD APPROVED INFECTIOUS DISEASES BLOCK From Our Ovjn Correspondent HAMILTON, Today. Approval of the erection of a new infectious diseases ward at the Waikato Hospital has been given by the Health Department and was received at the board meeting today. The tender of J. R. Simpson, at £3,990, was accepted for the work. Reporting to the board, Air. E. G. Johnson, secretary, said no reply had been received from the Government regarding the board’s representations relative to need for relief and hospital treatment for indigent Maoris. Proposals were being formed to meet the case. One was for payment out of the Consolidated Fund. This was unlikely to be given effect to. It was possible that subsidies will be rearranged so that the burden of indigent Maoris will be shared equally by all hospital boards.
