CYCLING CONFERENCE
NOW FIXED FOR FRIDAY DELEGATES ARRIVE TOMORROW The representatives of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association who are to investigate the cycling position in Auckland did not arrive at Auckland this morning as expected. They are now due tomorrow morning from Wellington. The members coming North are Mr. L. A- Tracy, secretary of the council, and Messrs. H. Austad and G. Bright. Mr. Tracy has written to the secretary of the Manukau Amateur Cycling Club suggesting a conference on Friday at 4.3 t p.m. This time does not suit the Manukau Club, which has replied suggesting Thursday evening for the meeting. Mr. G. R. Metcalfe, secretary of the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. has been requested by the N.Z.A.A.A. to call a meeting of all athletic club delegates in Auckland on Friday evening at 7.30. This will be held at the offices of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association. It is expected that the New Zealand Union of Cyclists, as well as the Auckland Centre, will be represented at this meeting. The_ advent of the representatives of the N.Z.A.A.A. follows on a dispute of some standing between that body and the New Zealand Union of Cyclists, a body formed in Auckland with the e£>ject of controlling cycling, which it was held was not receiving sufficient attention at the hands of the N.Z.A.A.A. A conference between the council and the New Zealand Union of Cyclists was held at Wanganui during tlie progress of the Dominion amateur atlt-r letic championships, at which preliminary steps toward a settlement of the break-away were made. No further action was taken bv the controlling body in Wellington till last week, when the Papatoetoe Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club announced its decision of allowing the suspended cyclists to compete at its sports meeting on Saturday last. The Auckland Centre upheld the action .of the Papatoetoe Club, and the position was discussed by the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association in Wellington last week, when it was decided to send the three representatives to Auckland.
