SPORT AT TE KUITI

TENNIS, CRICKET, BOWLING From Our Own Correspondent TE KUITI, Tuesday. The closing of the Te Ivuiti Tennis Club’s • season took place during the week-end. The club has successfully retained the Howard Shield. The clu o champions this year were T. Bennetts and Mrs. J. C. Rolleston. Trophies won in the doubles tournament were presented to Messrs. Bear and Murray and Mesdames Benge and Hetet. The Hamill Cricket Shield contest resulted in Otorohanga winning the trophy for the present season. The Read Shield, presented for competition among the Te Kuiti Friendly Societies, was won by tho Druids’ Lodge with 3 points, the Oddfellows and Foresters each securing three points. A one-day bowling tournament was held at Te Kuiti during the week-end, 12 teams from Te Kuiti, Otorohanga, Frankton and Te Awamutu competing. Before the start of play, Mr. IT. Hine (Te Kuiti Club president) welcomed the visitors. He said that the interclub competition was an important factor in bowls. At the close of play, two Te Kuiti teams, comprising the following, were equal in points: Jones, O’Connell, Andrew, Griffiths, and Fraser, Frerichs, Henderson, Harris, the latter team winning in the play-off. At the conclusion of the day’s play, Dr. de Castro was called upon to present the trophies to the members of the winning team.
