CONTROL BOARD MEETS SOLE SELECTOR SUPPORTED “That future selections of representative teams be made by a North and South Island selector, the latter to be resident in Otago, and that prior to the final selection a North v. South Island match be played,” is a remit to be brought forward by the Southland Football Association, according to advice received last evening from the New Zealand Association Football Council by the Board of Control of the Auckland Football Association. Auckland, however, decided to adhere | to its previous decision to support the \ sole selector scheme. An application for affiliation was received from Abel’s, Limited, which also desired to enter a third grade team. It was decided to intimate that no teams with trade names could be accepted for the Saturday competitions, there being a business houses’ competition organised for this purpose. If the team could decide on a name other than a trade name the committee would be pleased to accept the application. Senior entries were received from the Celtic, Cbrinthians and North Shore Clubs. Mr. R. Harrison, reporting on the proposed trip to Australia of a New Zealand primary schools’ team, stated that word had been received from Australia expressing the latter’s willingness to go through with the tour, but suggested May as a suitable month for the tour. As the New Zealand education authorities had given permission for the tour to be held in August. Mr. Harrison said further negotiations would be necessary.
