MEADOWBANK SCHOOL

SATISFACTORY PROGRESS i REPORT OF YEAR’S WORK Satisfaction with the work at the Meadowbank School is expressed in the annual report which will be persented at the annual meeting of house holders to be held in the school next Monday evening. During the year the report states the attendance increased steadily, resulting in the roll-number being advanced a sub-grade. However, this increase j had not been maintained owing to the j transfer of the bigger girls from the : Leslie Home to the new home at Papatoetoe, the loss of children from the | railway camps, and a greater number I of removals than usual from the dis- : trict. • The inspectors’ reports had been j very saisfactory and the examination | results good. In Standard VI. 38 pupils j gained Proficiency Certificates and one j Competency Certificate. There were no failures. Sport had received every . encouragement. | The financial position had been most ! satisfactory, the balance-sheet showj ing that during the year transactions j to the amount of £455 4s 2d had been ; dealt with by the committee. A little J over half this amout £245 6s 2d) had ! been exepnded on grounds improve--1 ments, indoor equipment and the erecI tion of a bicycle shed. The remainder ] had been utilised for general purposes. The credit balance amounted to £33 2s 7d. S In August last the committee had rei ceived a deputation of local clergymen, i representing the various denominaI lions in the district, requesting that \ the Nelson system of religious instruction bo included in the syllabus for the school. After consideration by the committee a referendum of parents and guardians had been taken, resulting in 216 votes being cast in favour, and only 19 against. The Board of Education having given the proposition their sanction, the system had been at once put into operation, and itsw orking had proved quite satisfactory.
