STATE GOVERNOR RETIRES
SIR DUDLEY DE CHAIR TO SPEND HOLIDAY SUCCESSOR ON THE WAY SYDNEY, Monday. Sir Dudley de Chair, Governor of New South Wales, has completed his term of office. He will spend a holiday in Queensland on a sheep station before he returns to England. A message from London says that Sir Dudley de Chair’s successor, Sir
Philip Game, was given a warm farewell prior to leaving England. At a reception at Australia House Sir George Fuller referred to the fact that Sir Philip was the first Air Force Governor appointed to Australia, or any Dominion. Sir Philip's brilliant record and his notable part in the World War were fittingly emphasised. Speakers referred in glowing terms to Sir Philip’s part in building up the Royal Air Force, in association with Marshal Lord Trenchard, but Sir Philip in his reply to the toast of his health, with characteristic modesty, said he merely acted as “bottlewasher” for Lord Trenchard, “who did 99J per cent, of the work, while I did the remainder —if as much.’’ Sir Philip intends to send his elder son to Sydney University and his younger boy to Cranbrook School, Rose Bay.
