NORTHERN WAIROA RUGBY From Our Own Correspondent 1 DARGAYILLE, Saturday. The annual _,eneral meeting of the Northern Wairoa Rugby Union was held last evening. The president, Mr. W. Montgomery, occupied the chair. Officers were oppointed as follow for the ensuing year:—Patron, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates; president, Mr. W. Montgomery; vice-presidents, Messrs. R. W. J. Cuthbert and A. V. Docherty; secretary, Mr. W. T. Main; treasurer, Mr. E. V. Morrish; auditor, Mr. A. L. Billing; delegates to North Auckland Rugby Union, Messrs. W. Montgomery and P. Brydon; management committee, Messrs. A. Towgood (Southern), T. C. Pennell (Ruawai), Donaldson (Tangowahine), B. D. Gould (Public Works), E. J. Wilson (Northern Star), G. Petley (United), F. C. Goukl (Dargaville), O. Sundberg (Schools’ Association), P. Walden, F. A. Jones and P. Brydon (debenture holders). Mr. F. GoliUl was appointed as chairman of the management committee. Messrs. B. D. Gould, J. Sloane and E. A. Harding were elected as senior grade representative selectors, and Messrs. E. D. Mcßae, A. Towgood and A. H. Vennell, jun., as junior selectors. The date fixed for opening the club competitions is Saturday, April 26. BAY OF PLENTY UNION From. Our Own Coi'rcspondcnt TE PUKE, Today. Mr. F. H. Wilkie presided at the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union at Wliakatane on Saturday evening last. The balance-sheet, which showed a cash balance of £153, with liabilities nil, was adopted. The election of officers resulted:—Patron, Mr. C. E. Macmillan, M.P.; president, Mr. F. H. Wilkie (re-elected); vicepresidents, Mr. W. J. Meredith (Rotorua), Mr. J. Brown (Te Puke), Mr. W. McFarlane (Tauranga), Mr. W. Robertson (Rangitaiki), and presidents of other sub-unions not yet elected: lion. auditor, Mr. J. Ruddy (reelected) ; hon. secretary and treasurer, Air. F. E. Gemming (re-elected): delegates to New Zealand Rugby Union’s annual meeting, Messrs. McFarlane and G. Ewing; executive, Messrs. F. H. Wilkie, W. McFarlane and F. E. Gemming; selectors, Messrs. A. S. Cliffc, W. Burrett and F. Burt: committee, two delegates from eac.h subunion, the president and secretary. Subject to the approval of the N.Z.R.F.U. permission was granted to Rotorua Rugby Union and Tauranga Rugby Union to hold seven-a-side tournaments on April 21 and 26 respectively. The secretary was instructed to advise the Poverty Bay Union that the Buy of Plenty 'Union would send a team to Gisborne on June 3. and also that the East Coast Union be communicated with and an endeavour made to secure a match with them on May 31. Delegates to the N.Z.R.F.U. were instructed to vote against the adoption of the International Rules, and that the matter of a flat rate for ground ! charges, as suggested by the South Canterbury Rugby Union, be left to the discretion of the delegates. Union members were unanimously in favour of the broadcasting of test matches during the British tour by the Broadcasting Company.‘and the secretary was instructed to write the New Zealand Union to this effect. June 14 was the date set down for the commencement of the Te HurinuiApanui Shield competition. The challenge of the Te Puke Rugby Union being the only one handed in, it was decided that it play Tauranga (holders) on this date at Tauranga. Air. W. Burrett (Opotiki) was appointed manager of the Bay team touring Poverty Bay and East Coast early in June.
