RIFLE SHOOTING
The engineers and signallers of the Northern Depot New Zealand Engineers fired the annual competition for their championship belts on Saturday at Penrose. The engineer belt has been competed for since 1880 and is one of the oldest trophies in Auckland in continuous competition. After being held for two successive years by Lieutenant W. R. Dyer, it was won by Quartermaster-Sergeant Penn. The signal belt, which has. also been held for two years in succession by Corporal H. L. Goode, was won by Signaller Sauvarin, who finished with a lead of 23 points. The match consisted of application, snapshooting and rapid firing at 200 and 300 yards under New Zealand army rifle service conditions. The detailed scores of the leading competitors are as follow:—Engineers: Quartermaster- Sergeant Penn, 121; Sergeant R. V. Smith, 116; Lance-Corporal Spry, 115; Corporal Baxter, 108.
