SHUT THE GATE

REAL SPEED MERCHANT TREASURY SHOWS THEM The palm for scoring the easiest win of the two days’ racing at Whangarei must be accorded J. T. Jamieson's charge. Treasury, who was at a fine price on Saturday, considering that he was unlucky ’the first day. He dre\v number six marble, and jumped out fast, soon taking the lead. He was going so smoothly at the home turn that it actually seemed to L all over bar the shouting. At the bottom of the straight Treasury shot away from his nearest attendants, and he was four lengths, in front a furlong from the judge. All the way up the straight R. S. Bagby was sitting pretty, glancing round several times to'see what had happened to the others. Something had happened all right, for they were down the course. It was then a simple matter for the Takanini hack to canter home a winner by two and a-lialf lengths—and it’might have been a dozen or so, judging by the way he was going over the last furlong. It was a case of “shut the gate.” It was a revelation of real speed, and this time Treasury never looked like stopping. It is only a few months ago that Treasury had his first outing, and he is improving all the time. Next season he should be quite capable of winning some of our good sprint races, for it is likely that he will be more of a sprinter than a stayer. He races in the same colours as In the Shade, who is owned by Mr. AY* S. Glenn.
