DEVONPORT RATEPAYERS

ANNUAL MEETING HELD “NOT ADEQUATELY RECOGNISED” The annual meeting of the Melrose and Calliope Ratepayers’ Association, Devonport, was held last evening, Mr. J. W. Parker presiding. The annual report regretted that the needs of the district had not been more adeauately recognised by the Borough Council. Pressure by the association had, however, secured attention to Alison Avenue and the re-conditioning of some of the footpaths. Two works that should be urgently attended to were the junction of Bake ltoad and Mozeley Avenue, where a cutting hindered vision, thereby causing man} traffic accidents: and the completing of the formation of Upper Victoria Road. A deputation is to wait on the council to urge attention to these questions. Mr. T. Walsh, of the Devonport Borough Council, forecast that the annual charge of 7s (id for water meter maintenance would not be levied after this year and detailed the work being done in Melrose Park area. Officers for this year were elected as follow: —Chairman, Mr. J. YV. Parker; secretary, Mr. H. Cochran; treasurer, Mr. M. Barnhill: committee, Messrs. R. Morgan, T. Unswortli, J. Anderson, .T. Andrews, A. E. Carter, Lyon and Dr. Bennett. The proposal to amalgamate the association with the Melrose Paik Committee to form the Melrose improvement Association is to be further examined.
