, Great interest is being taken in the mannequin parade to be held the auspices of the Thames Plunket Society today. The function is in aid of the society’s funds. There are 300 mining licences existing in the Thames district. The clerk Air. H. R. Bush, of the AVarden’s Court’, states that only six claims are being worked. In a mining case at Thames on Friday, counsel. Air. Clendon, asked a witness, in connection with an omission of the application for protection for a claim, "To whom did you leave the legal arrangements of this claim?” “You. Mr. Clendon,” was the staggering. reply. * * * A new Catholic church is being erected at Turua. Hauraki Plains. The building was. commenced last week. .The annual meeting*of the Thames Fire lirigade was held last Friday evening. Superintendent -V. Garrett was re-elected to office, and Mr \ Fleming was re-elected Deputy-Super-intendent. Mr. P. J. Jenkins, who has held the secretarial reins for manv years, resigned and Mr. C. Scott was chosen as his successor.
