LABOUR’S POSITION
STATEMENT BY SECRETARY DECISION FOR M.P.’S Press Association WELLINGTON’. Monday. The following statement was made today by Mr. Peter Eraser, M.P.. secretary of the Parliamentary Labour Party: "In view of the fact that some conjecture and comment have been caused as to what effect the recent pronouncement by the Alliance of Labour, in regard to the Government, will have on the attitude of the Labour Party in Parliament, I wish to make it perfectly clear that while the Labour Party, in Parliament, will always give the expressed opinions of trade union organisations the consideration which they are certainly entitled to it. the only body competent to decide the policy of the Labour Party is its annual conference, on which the affiliated trade unions are represented. The method of putting that policy into operation in the House of Representatives. is a matter for the judgment and decision of the Labour members of Parliament.
