ARBITRATION POWERS

HOURS FOR BRICK WORKERS Press Association DUNEDIN, Today. The decision of the Appeal Court that the Arbitration Court would not exceed its jurisdiction in fixing the working hours fir kiln burners in brick pottery works at 12 hours daily, though the Factories Act provides for a maximum of 8* hours, creates an interesting situation in view of the fact that the local Brick and Pottery Workers’ Union has made an application for a new award. Mr. Robinson, the secretary, states that the union will ask the court not to fix any hours and if the courst will not refrain the union will probably withdraw the dispute and cancel its registration under the Conciliation and Arbitration- Act, placing itself under the “more humane jurisdiction of the Factories Act.”
