LONG CHURCH SERVICE
DIPLOMA OF HONOUR PRESENTATION AT ONEHUNGA The platform of the Onehunga Congregational Church was occupied by the father of Congregationalism in the Auckland district yesterday afternoon, when Mr. Horace J. Bowgen was i t stented with the diploma of honour of the Xational Sunday School Union, London, in recognition of his 50 years’ unbroken record of Sunday school service. Mr. Charles Moon, superintendent of iho Onehunga Church, presided, and the speakers included the Revs. L. B. Busfield and G. Heighway, Messrs. Enoch "Wood, W. J. Smeeton and J. Rowe. Mr. "Wood said that Mr. Bowgen arrived in Auckland and joined the Edinburgh Street Sunday School in 1880 After spending 11 years in Newton, he went to Onehunga, where he had given valuable and continuous service ever since. The presentation was made by Mr. J. Tyler, president of the Auckland Sunday School Union. Another unbroken record of service has also been established by Mr. Bowgen by having acted for 40 years as clerk and accountant to J. Mclntyre’s Clyde ironworks, Onehunga.
