RECORD ATTENDANCE AT PAPATOETOE SPORTS WATT WINS CHAMPIONSHIP j A record attendance of spectators j and competitors was present at the | third and final carnival of the present season, held by the Papatoetoe Ama- j teur Athletic and Cycling Club, on the I Papatoetoe Recreation Ground, on Sat- | urday afternoon. Ready (Hamilton), tied. 3. Time, The pistol set the field of six off at a good pace, with the four placed men at the head. This position was maintained throughout the distance, and on reaching the straight Watt put in a good sprint to gain a decisive verdict over Montgomery. Barker and Ready could not be separated as they flashed p»st the post. Meredith put in a good sprint on entering the straight, and moved from sixth to third place, but the limit men were too far away.

Cooper had been running a well-judged race, and here set off after Browne, but was three yards back, and going fast when the former crossed the line. During the seventh lap, when the back markers were manoeuvring for positions, one of the riders in the back fell and brought down six other competitors. It was some time before the riders and machines could be separated, but fortunately none of the riders was injured.
