AUCKLAND V. HAURAKI REMUERA CLUB FINALS Several interesting competitions were played on the Stanley Street courts on Saturday -afternoon. The most popular contest of the afternoon was a town versus country competition, Hauraki Plains v. Auckland. The visitors were defeated by 11 matches to 3, one match being unfinished. In the D Grade Auckland Lawn Tennis Association competition the final games gave Pukeroa the right to retain the championship for another year for, although the match score was five all, Pukeroa was two sets ahead. An interesting inter-club contest between Campbell Park and Papatoetoe was won by the City Club. In the. suburbs, several club championship competitions were advanced another stage. At Remuera A. C. Stedman and N. G. Sturt won the finals for the men’s doubles. Miss Marjorie Macfarlane won the women’s singles after a most interesting contest with Miss J. Rarrfsay. The position was reversed somewhat in the women’s doubles, when Miss Ramsay and Mrs. Napier defeated Misses Marjorie and Marion Macfarlane. Miss L. Robertson won the junior singles. HAURAKI PLAINS V. PUKEROA WINS D GRADE The final of the D grade competition between Pukeroa and Campbell Park was completed on Saturday. When play had finished each side had won five matches and the honours went to Pukeroa by two sets. A match was also played between Campbell Park B and Papatoetoe, winners of the Outer Suburban A grade, the former team winning by 9 matches to 1. Details are, Campbell Park players being mentioned first in each case:— Men’s singles: Porter beat Elder, 6— o, 5—6 6—5; Rostgard beat Catt, 6—5, 5—G, 6 2. Women’s singles: Miss Bull beat Miss Mellsop, 6—4, G—l; Miss Rukutai lost to Miss Bryant, 3—G, 6— 4, 3—6, Men’s doubles: Porter and Rostgard beat Elder and Catt, G—s. 6—4; Rukutai and Winger beat Nicholson and Leonard, o—b, (; o 6—3. Women’s doubles: Misses Bull and’ Rukutai beat Misses Mellsop and Bryant, 6—2, 6—4; Mrs. Worsop and Miss Leng beat Misses Haslop and Cutforth, 6 5” 6—l. Combined doubles: Winger and Mrs. Worsop beat Leonard and Miss Haslop, 6—5, 6—o; Rukutai and Miss Leng won from Nicholson and Miss Cutfoitn by default. NORTH COTE-BIRKENHEAD The final of the men’s handicap doubles played on Saturday resulted in Herrick and Potter, 40, defeating Potter and Crowe, 15 2-6, 6—3, 6—4. Entries for the club’s Easter tournament close on Monday, April 14. The Auckland Primary Schools’ LaWn Tennis Association championship matches were concluded at the Stanley Street tennis courts on Saturday. Prizes were presented by Mr. F. J. Ohlson of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association. Results were as follow: — Girls’ Doubles. —Semi-finals, section A: Misses O. Harding and M. Savin (Meadowbank) beat Misses E. MacMillan and K. Petford (Meadowbank), 9 —6. Section B: Misses G. Dorling and p. Keith (Remuera) beat Misses M. Watson and J. Lees (Remuera). 9—7. Final: Misses O. Harding and M. Savin beat Misses G. Dorling and P. Keith, 9-— o. Girls’ Singles.—Semi-finals, Section B: Miss S. Bartlett (Remuera) beat Miss J. Bishop (Meadowbank), 9—S. Section B: Miss G. Dorling (Remuera) beat Miss A. Gilpin (Maungawhau), 9—2. The final will be played this week. Boys’ Doubles. —Semi-finals, section A: Williams and Lang (Remuera) beat Mackie and Paterson (Maungawhau), 9 U. Section B: E. Lewisham and N. SECONDARY SCHOOL GAMES Tennis of a higher standard was seen in the finals of the girls’ events in the secondary schools’ tournament. Results are as follow: — Singles.—Final: B.
