Prizes will be given for the most appropriate costumes and preliminary arrangements | have already been made for the function. PROGRESS OF OBSTETRICAL APPEAL The secretary of the local committee, Mr. A. H. Wilkie, states that Takapuna has responded magnificently to the Obstetrical Appeal Fund. At its meeting last week, the Takapuna Borough Council granted the sum of £lO for the appeal. The sum already raised in Takapuna exceeds the quota set out in the original schedule and those responsible feel gratification at the response. MEETING AT MAUNGATUROTO At Maungaturoto, on Friday, a meeting of all those interested in the New Zealand Obstetrical Appeal, was held to discuss the raising of funds in the district. Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Ventry Smith, of Whangarei, # who were introduced by the chairman, Mrs. Pasley, fully explained the object of the appeal, and the meeting decided to canvas the dis-. trict for contributions. The money collected will be included in the northern quota. Mrs. Pasley was appointed secretary and treasurer.

MAJOR GORDON IS SPEAKER AT PONSONBY BRANCH MEETING
The Ponsonby branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union held its usual fortnightly meeting in St. Stephen’s Hall on Thursday afternoon, Miss Read presided. Major Gordon was the speaker for the afternoon, and gave a very interesting talk on her work in the Citj r . Afternoon tea brought a very enjoyable afternoon to a close. Mr. and Mrs. Hunt, and Mr. and Mrs. G. J. Righton, of England, Mr. and Mrs P. Greenfield, and Miss Greenfield, of Timaru, Mr. and Mrs. C. McCormick, of Coromandel, and Mr. and Mrs. W. | Mann, of "Western Australia, are among the guests at the Royal Hotel.
