ROBBED AND BEATEN
VISITOR FROM COUNTRY THE VICTIM SUSPECTS BEFORE COURT Attacked in a House in Hobson Street on Friday evening. Charles Darke, a visitor from the country, was robbed of £5 10s, all the money he had in his possession at the time. Mr. Darke was struck in the face, but was not very badly injured and made a complaint to the police on Saturday morning. James Daly, aged 32, and Robert Morton, aged 34. both ship’s firemen, appeared at the Police Court this morning and were charged with robbing Charles Darke of £5 10s on Friday and using violence. They admitted being found drunk in Hobson Street and were both fined 5s in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. On the major charge they were remanded, at the request of Chief-Detective Ham mond, until Thursday. “What about bail,’* inquired Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. The chief-detective: Oh, no. They are both sailors who won’t go to sea. Daly and Morton were arrested on Saturday afternoon by Constables Moore and Hayes. The arrests were made within an hour or so of each other. One man was arrested in Hobson Street, and the other in an hotel in Hobson Street.
