FINE PROGRAMMES The Mexican border provides a background for ‘ ‘Mexicala Rose.” nowin its last days at the Roxy Theatre The plot deals with the adventures of a girl gambler who gains the affections of the brother of a man against whom she has a grudge. She determines to avenge herself by marrying the boy. to the horror of his brother. Barbara Stanwyck gives a convincing portrayal in the title role, and she is ably supported by Sam Hardy and William Janney. An interesting supporting feature is the account of the boxing match ar Wellington between Sarron and Donovan. The picture gives a clear account of every blow given and received. and is of great interest to local boxing enthusiasts. The beautiful British film star, Marguerite Allan, is to be seen and heard at the Roxy Theatre next Wednesday in the all-dialogue screen version of Thomas Hardy's famous novel. “Under the Greenwood Tree.” which is being released by Cinema Art Films. She is seen as a sweet village school mi-tress, who causes trouble with the local instrumental choir by consenting to play an organ at the church, thereby displacing their band fror-i existence. Playing opposite her iJohn Batten, the young Auckland bo? Xigel Barrie, and a full cast of British players who speak the language a* It should be spoken.
