Coming to the straight Nightmarch went to the front hotly pursued by Chide, while Loquacious had fallen back. A furlong from home Chide tried to get on terms with Nightmarch. but the latter outclassed his rival, and drawing away won by three lengths, with Donald six lengths off third. Leadlight was fourth. Time, 1.541. Nightmarch was hooted after his victory. Some of the newspapers are asking why the stewards had not ordered an inquiry into the horse’s running- at Moorfield compared with his form at Rosehill.
