ALARMING ’QUAKE
LITTLE DAMAGE AT OPOTIKI PEOPLE RUSH OUTSIDE Special to THE SUN OPOTIKI, Friday. Although the earthquake this afternoon was the most severe felt here for some years, and caused considerable alarm, surprisingly little damage was done. When the buildings swayed, people rushed out to the streets, and a crowd soon collected. The old wooden school shook alarmingly, and the children ran outside. Crockery was broken in one shop, and goods were dislodged from a shelf in another. In one building the concrete and brick walls have bulged, and the building would be unsafe if another shake occurred: A rumbling noise was heard before the shake, and the disturbance lasted fully a minute.
