PANMURE-HOWICK ROAD
CONSTRUCTION IN CONCRETE WORK TO BEGIN SHORTLY The work of constructing the Pan-mure-Howick main highway, to link up with the section of road from the Panmure Bridge to the western boundary of the Howick town district to be concreted by the Manukau County Council, is expected to commence within a fortnight. Six tenders ranging from £9,670 to £11,117 were received by the Howick Town Board for the work, that of Isherwood, Bellam and Company, the lowest tenderers, being accepted. This has been approved by the Main Highways Board which will pay a subsidy of £ 3 to £ 1 on the work. The roadway will be 18ft wide with a depth of six inches in the centre increasing to nine inches at the sides, j Shoulders of water-bound macadam i four feet in width will be made from j the concrete edges, making a roadway | 26ft wide. After consolidation the i shoulders will be sealed. The con- j tract time allowed for the work is six i months. A contract involving £948 for the. , improvement of footpaths has been entered into by the board.
