WAKA’S TRIAL RUN
NORTHERN COMPANY’S NEW SHIP The new* Northern Company motorvessel, Waka, underwent successful trials yesterday. She averaged a speed of 10 knots, with the latest type of Diesel engines. The vessel has twin screws. The engine is of 152 b.li.p., and of the cold-starting type. The boat itself has been solidly built by Mr. George Niccol. She is of 460 tons displacement, her overall length is 116 ft, beam 2Sft, draught 6ft Gin, and carrying capacity 300 tons. I-Ler planking is Bin thick. She is to be used on the Tauranga run, replacing the Ronaki, and was to leave at noon today on her maiden trip. ——
