BRITISH RUGBY TOUR

ADMISSION CHARGES FLXED UP TO £1 FOR TESTS Press Association WELLINGTON, Wednesday. | The admission charges to matches ! ! to be played during the tour of the j British Rugby team were announced : | at a meeting of the management com- ; j mittee of the New Zealand Rugby ! Union this evening. The chairman, i Mr. S. S. Dean, said that as there ! seemed to be some doubt as to the ! ! charges which had been laid down for ; admission, it would be wise to make these clear. ! The charges in all instances include admission to the ground. For ordinary matches, the charges are:—Ground, 2s; schoolchildren, Is; special enclosures, 3s, plus tax; temporary stands or seats in grandstand enclosures, ss, plus tax; grandstand, 7s 6d, plus tax. For test matches the charges are: Ground, 3s, including tax; special enclosures, ss, plus tax; temporary stands or seats in grandstand enclosures, 7s 6d, plus tax; grandstand, 10s, plus tax; special grandstand reserves, £l, including tax. The North Otago Union wrote accepting the match against the British team at Oamaru on June 18. The New Zealand University Rugby Football Council wrote asking that a match against a team representing the New Zealand Universities be included in the itinerary. It was decided to reply that the programme had been finalised. CROWE NOT COMING REPLACED BY BOWCOTT Reed. 9.45 a.m. LONDON, Wed. Owing to a broken collarbone, the Irish threequarter, M. Crowe, has withdrawn from the Rugby touring team.

H. M. Bowcott, of Wales, is to replace him. Crowe has not been a regular member of the Irish side this season, and his defection will not be a serious loss to the team. In all probability the substitution

of Bowcott, who has been a consistent performer for Cambridge University and Wales, will be an improvement, as will the replacement of Wakefield by Kendrew, announced yesterday. N.Z. RUGBY UNION’S PLANS

AUCKLAND MAY OBJECT A lengthy communication regarding arrangements for the tour of the English team this season was received by the Auckland Rugby Union Management Committee last evening. Certain items failed to meet with the approval of the members, but Mr. A. Belcher suggested that it was early to make any protest, as there might be considerable modifications of the proposed arrangements when tho annual meeting of the New Zealand Union was held on April 10. It was difficult to see why the cost of the tour should exceed greatly the South African tour expenses of 1928. Mr. Belcher’s suggestion was adopted, that further consideration of the proposals should be deferred for a fortnight. BROADCASTING MATCHES OFFER TO RADIO COMPANY Press Association WELLINGTON". Wednesday. Tho Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union this evening decided that if the Radio Broadcasting Company of New Zealand would make a donation to provide radio sets for the use of patients in hospitals and charitable institutions, the union would, give the company permission to broadcast reports of the matches played by the British team in the Dominion. "There is a general impression abroad,” said the chairman of the union, Mr. S. S. Dean, “that the Management Committee is opposed to the broadcasting of matches on account of the fear of pecuniary loss. This is quite erroneous, as the sending out of reports of matches will not affect us one iota. The broadcasting of matches played by the New Zealand team would affect other unions, with the result that when test matches are played these unions’ gates would suffer. Quite a number of unions have written to me on the subject. “However, as the Radio Company has expressed such concern for patients in hospitals, I move that we write to them asking them whether they are prepared to make a donation for the privilege of broadcasting the test matches, the donations to be set aside to provide wireless sets in hospitals and charitable institutions. The test matches will be a big factor to the Radio Company, and it should be prepared to make a donation for the privilege of reporting them.” Mr. T. A. Fletcher said the chairman had set out the position fairly and clearly, and the union’s offer would test the sincerity of the Radio Company. The motion was carried unanimously.
