A hitch has arisen in the negotiations between New Zealand and Ausi . alia concerning terms of the visit • t the South African lawn ennis team io thc‘se countries next season which. ;f not straightened out, may imperil the whole tour. The natural desire of the Australian Lawn Tennis Association is to have the South Africans in the country as long as possible, including time for the Australian national championships, which are playing at the end of January and beginning of February The objection to this is that the visit to New Zealand will be delayed until too late in the season. Negotiations for Letter dates are now proceeding. New Zealand having been entrusted by South Africa with the task of making tho Australian arrangements. As South Africa will not challenge for the Davis Cup next year, a strong team is expected to make the trip, including Raymond and Spence. The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association jr considering the possibility of inviting tho South African Association to send a mixed team, four men and two women players, which will enable matches to be staged for the benefit of New Zealand women players.
