KAYE DON SLOWS DOWN TO 173 i M.P.H. BAD BEACH AT DAYTONA NEW YORK, Wednesday. At Daytona Beach, Florida, yesterday, Mr. Kaye Don made three round trips over a nine-mile course. The highest speed he attained in his car Silver Bullet was 186.046 miles an hour over one mile. This is the best official time Mr. Don has made so far. It is about 45 miles an hour short of Sir Henry Segrave’s record. The engine of the car behaved poorly. Today Mr. Don drove once round the course. He reached a speed of 173.577 miles an hour on the south-bound trip and then gave up until conditions become more favourable, which possibly will be tomorrow. The car bounced a good deal today on the rough course. Mr. Don reported that the beach was in such a condition that great speed would be unduly hazardous. Carburettor trouble again interfered siighlty with the performance of the car.
