ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
YOUNG MAN CONVICTED From Our Own Correspondent TE RUITI, Tuesday, A young man of presentable appearance pleaded guilty in the Te Kuitl Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday before YV. Platts, S.M., to a charge of attempting to commit suicide at Waitomo on March 23. The police stated that the young man who had been living at Waitomu had been drinking prior to the attempt on his life. Following an injury at work, ho had been very depressed. He had also had an affair with a native girl, which had resulted in people poking fun at him. On the day in question he had gone into a shed after asking a. friend to “have a last drink with him,” and being missed, was later found with a rope and strap round his neck. He had appeared at court after the attempt and was remanded for medical treatment. Some time ago the youth was admitted to probation, but had not caused anv trouble during the period, and had been a good worker. The young man was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence it called upon within the next 12 months. A prohibition order was also issued.
