TAURANGA NOTES
At a public meeting held on Monday evening for the purpose of considering the best way to commemorate the historic Gate Pa battles, a committee was set up to take in hand the question of restoring Gate Pa. This committee is to collect details and report to a general meeting at an early date. The Hon. E. A. Ransom had a strenuous day on Monday. Shortly after 8 o’clock, accompanied by Mr. C. E. Macmillan, M.P., Mr. T. Sinclair, county chairman, and Mr. Watkinson, district engineer, he set out to inspect blocks of unsettled land and was kept busy until 5 o’clock. At 7 o’clock in the Borough Chambers the Mayor gave him a public reception, after which he received a large number of deputations. Yesterday he inspected the railway workshops at the Mount, and various roads. In the evening he met members of the United Party.
