OLD THAMES GIRLS HONOUR TWO MEMBERS
HAPPY GATHERING TO CELEBRATE BIRTHDAYS Two of the earliest members of the Old Thames Girls’ Association were honoured at a happy birthday gathering held in the Pitt Street Methodist Hall yesterday afternoon. They were Mrs. Dewar, whose 96th birthday occurs on April 18, and Mrs. Smith, who was 89 yesterday. Airs. Oldham, president of the association, presented both guests with a bouquet of flowers and extended to them the congratulations and best wishes of every member of the assocAlrs. Dewar and Airs. Smith both replied, Mrs. Smith also reading a poem entitled “The Old Year's Milestones.” Associated with Airs. Oldham on the platform besides the guests of honour were:—Captain and Airs. Newby, Airs. Blomfield, Airs. Farquhar and Airs. Towers, all of whom are over SO years of age, and Airs. AlcAliken, secretary. Aliss A. Ahier, niece of Air. C. Ahier, an old Thames identity, who returned last year from Jersey Islands, and who is now resident in Auckland, was also of the association. A* request for help in the obstetrical appeal was made by Airs. Kenneth Gordon, who briefly outlined the objects of the movement. Short speeches were also made by Airs. J. A. Bradstreet, president of the Y.W.C.A, and by the Rev. T. R. B. Woolloxail, an earlier Thames resident. A programme was presented consisting of songs by Airs, de Berg, vocal duets by the Alisses Entrican, and a pianoforte solo by Airs. Cyril Firth.
