BALMORAL ZONE DEFINED

MT. EDEN BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING TRAMCAR SIGNS CRITICISED In future the name Balmoral will apply only to the main road from the old tram terminus to a point to be fixed by the Balmoral Business Men’s Association. A recommendation to this effect, put forward by the Legal and Finance Committee,- was adopted by the Mount Eden Borough Council at its meeting last evening. The proposed Balmoral zone was submitted by the Balmoral Business Men’s Association. During the meeting, at which Mr. E. H. Potter presided, permission was granted a picture theatre proprietor to open his' theatre on Good Friday night. The films must, however, be approved by the Mayor. The Auckland Institute and Museum advised that the council’s share of maintenance charges for the year was £478. A protest against the use of the signboard “Balmoral” on Dominion Road tramcars was received from the Eden Chamber of Commerce. This criticism was upheld by Mr. W. H. Nagle, who said many people were misled by that name on the cars. The chamber’s letter will be forwarded to the Auckland Transport Board. At the meeting of local bodies convened by the Auckland Hospital Board to discuss unemployment relief, the Mount Eden Council will be represented by the Deputy-Mayor, Mr. A. M. Bryden, and Messrs. W. H. Nagle, L. Joll and F. L. Rendell.
