MINERS’ DISPUTE

CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON The dispute which recently occurred at the Dobson colliery, "Westland, owing to a demand by the local miners’ union for the suspension of a deputy who was alleged to have underestimated the amount of noxious gas present in certain workings will be considered at a conference to be held in Wellington today. The mine management refused the demand on the ground that if the man were suspended the deputies’ union would refuse to allow any of its members to enter the mine. The conference will be between the executive of the Coal Mine Owners’ Association and the Miners’ Federation. Mr. W. D. Holgate, president of the association, and Mr. E. S. Wright, a member of the executive, left Auckland last evening to attend.
