The following message has been received by the company’s Greymouth manager from the head office: “In view of the steadily decreasing amount of water on the Grey bar. we have decided definitely that we cannot risk tonnage to load timber at Greymouth for Australian ports pending an improvement.’* The Ngatoro and the Raimai cleared the bar at 9 a.m. on Friday for Wellington, and the Kaltuna at the same time for Sydney. All three vessels were short-loaded. Over 4,000,000 feet of tim- ! her is now awaiting shipment from the boast to Australia. The timber trade is I therefore seriously affected in that part. Hopes that the bar would be scoured \ *'- v a swollen river are unrealised, as the j weather remains fine.
