GOLF SEASON OPENS

AUCKLAND CLUB HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING UP-TO-DATE CLUBHOUSE “I wish to congratulate members of the club on a. very successful season/-’ said Mr. M. M. Louisson, president of the Auckland Golf Club, at the club’s annual meeting, held in the Chamber of Commerce Hall on Saturday evening. “While we have shown a loss on the year’s working, the reconstruction work has been charged against revenue, and not against the capital account. In the two years, ‘material and alterations’ have amounted to £3,755, and the loss in that period has been £2,181, so that had the reconstruction been charged against the capital account. we would have shown a profit of £7OO a year on our operations. “We have spent the money, and we have an up-to-date clubhouse and an up-to-date course,” concluded the president. “The slogan of the incoming committee should now be economy.” The report and balance sheet were then adopted, and Mr. S. J. Hanna brought forward a recommendation from the committee that members of the Auckland Ladies’ Club should not be required to pay an increased subscription until members of the Auckland Club had sanctioned an increase in their own subscriptions. After discussion, the recommendation was adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr. H. Gilfillan; vice-presidents, Messrs. G. F. Foote, J. Macky, and A. M. Howden; captain, Mr. H. B. Lusk; committee (three members to replace members retiring in rotation), Messrs. C. M. Gordon, E. B. Brown, and V. W. Wilson; auditor, Mr. N. A. Duthie. “After three years, Air. Hanna is relinquishing the position of captain. He was captain at the time we reconstructed the clubhouse and improved the course, and one cannot speak too highly of his services at a difficult period,” said Air. Lusk, in moving a vote of thanks to Air. Hanna. “His personal interest in the club, and the trouble he has taken, have been beyond all praise.” The club then placed on record its appreciation of Air.
