PAEROA RUGBY REFEREES
From Our Own Correspondent PAEROA, Saturday. At the annual meeting: of the Paeroa Rugby Referees’ Association, Mr. P. E. Platt paresided. The chairman spoke at length of the valuable services of Air. E. Smith as secretary and selector cf the Paeroa Union, and expressed regret at his departure from the district. The following' officers were elected: President. Air. P. E. Platt: vice-presi-dents, Rev. E. Pope, Alessrs. G. P. de Castro, AV. Arnold. AV. Neil. A. F. Steedman, G. is. Talboys. 11. M. Shand. P. G. vA’illjiams, P. AlcWatters. J. Bren an, R. AV. Evans and D. Leach; secretary, Air. F. L. Cassidy; representatives to the Thames Valley Union, Messrs. Neil and Jonas: Air. IT. AT. Shand. a life member, will also be in tt endance. The referees appointed for the season, with power to add to their number, are:—Alessrs. Johnson, Jonas, Shaw, Xeil. Crosby, AVilton, C. Rolton, Cassidy, Kicly, Arnold and Rev. E. Pope.
PIAKO RUGBY UNION From Our Own Correspoyidcnt TE AROHA, Friday. Over 50 members attended the annual meeting of the Piako Rugby Union at To Aroha on Thursday evening, Hr. W. R. Lawrence presiding. Tho balance sheet showed receipts £ 271 14s sd, expenditure £294 9s Cd, leaving a debit of £l7 15s Id. The insurance account showed a credit of £4B 9s lid. The president read the annual report, which included a reference to £3O having been donated to the Te Aroha unemployment fund, which was controlled by the local borough council. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follow: Patron, Mr. C. E. Macmillan. M.P.; president, Hr. W. R. Lawrence; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. C. Carrol, J. A. Hepburn, S. Davies, F. Lockyer, and T. M. Curran; secretary, Mr. Gus. Walsh; lion, auditor. Mr. E. H. Edmonds; executive
committee, Messrs. Ilepburn, Lockyer, I Heathcote. McGowan, and Landman. According to notice of motion. Mr. J, • A. Hepburn proposed, and Mr. Lockyer seconded, that the name be changed from Piako Rugby Union to Te Aroha. Rugby Union. This was carried unani- | raously It was resolved that It be a recom- . mendation to the committee that the season be opened on April 26.
