NEW GOVERNOR-GENERAL
PLANS FOR RECEPTION IN AUCKLAND LONGER STAY POSSIBLE Plans for the reception of welcome and entertainment of the GovernorGeneral, Lord Bledisloe, and Lady Bledisloe during their first visit to Auckland, commencing on Tuesday, have been forwarded to Wellington for their Excellencies’ approval. It is possible the Vice-Regal visitors will remain here until Thursday evening, a day longer than originally planned, In which event the civic authorities will arrange an extended programme. Their Excellencies will be met on arrival of the Limited express at 9.34 a.m. on Tuesday by the Mayor, Mr. Geo. Baildon. In the afternoon, if the visitors will be taken ou a motor tour of Auckland, visiting several of the suburbs and travelling along the new waterfront road to Tamaki. The principal function will be the public reception to Lord and Lady Bledisloe at the Town Hall on Tuesday evening. An address of welcome will be presented to their Excellencies by the Mayor, and Lord Bledisloe is expected to address the assemblage. The city organist, Mr. J. Maughan Barnett, and the municipal choir will provide a musical programme. The issue of official invitations is to be restricted to M.P.’s, Mayors and chairmen of local bodies, military and naval representatives, and public officials. The public is cordially invited to attend the reception, which commences at 8.15 p.m. Their Excellencies will visit the hospital, infirmary, Veterans’ Home, Evelyn Firth Home and other institutions and places of scenic interest on Wednesday. The Mayor appeals to city business houses to display flags and bunting on their premises on Tuesday.
